DEATH DISCO Take 1 & 2

I HEART BERLIN

The trip to Berlin that Natasha had organised as a birthday pressie for me slash organising an aftershow party for her old friends the Raveonettes, finally arrived....After a few hiccups upon arrival at the airport due to both our inabilities to find the correct train into town, we managed to hail down a taxi and after passing the Berlin Wall and few beerhaus' we arrived at our apartment called Lett'em'sleep on Lettestrasse, Prenzlauerberg. After a quick change and a few phone calls we took a stroll to a nearby Asian restaurant for some food which was incredible and incredibly cheap!! Beer accompanied the food as did the merriment and sudden tipsiness... TIP: walking on cobbled streets in heels = not clever, no wonder not many people wear heels in Berlin! We jumped back in a cab and headed over to 8mm bar to meet Olli (the owner and Nat's friend) and his Icelandic friend Baldwin to pick them up and go on to the Raveonettes gig at the Lido.
The gig was immense and got even better after a few more weissbeers on tap.. merriment spilled over into the backstage area where we met up with Sune and Sharin after the gig, and a few of their friends including Junior Senior's Jeppe and his boyfriend Javier Peres of the Peres Project fame. In the midst of it all I managed to scoff some Kinder chocolate and a few pretzels!! Woop! After a few more beers, and even more kinder and beer we headed back to 8mm bar where the afterparty was being hosted and where Nat was djing. A few of Nat's friends came down including Brooke Vermillion Tong and her husband Matt Tong. Merriment continued long into the morning when at around 5am Pam Hogg sauntered in looking eccentric and fabulous as ever after previously attending Adam Sky (Adamsky's birthday)...We finally left at around 5am. Regretfully we spend most of the following day in bed nursing big hangovers. A cup of something warm at one of the nearby cafes allowed us to recuperate followed by dinner with Olli at a traditional German restaurant which was divine, I had the pork loin with sauerkraut followed by a plum and semolina pudding and a grosse dark beer Olli had schnitzel and Nat, roasted fish... after a slow walk back in the rain we decided to call it a night with one last night-cap at a bar next to our apartment. I even opted for the fresh peppermint tea still having a headache from the night before..However, Nat had also organised a quick drink with the up-and-coming Berlin based American artist Ryan Mclaughlin (check out his website http://www.linneusr.com/) whom was exhibiting his work at Nat's friend Monica's gallery in London. The quick night-cap quickly turned into a full on drinking session with my peppermint tea being replaced by copious amounts of red wine... Ryan was ace we talked talked and talked some more until being asked to leave the bar at around 2am. The night was still young and after a quick trip to the off-licence we ended up back at our apartment with Ryan, not to sleep but to continued out chats and drink even more. We went to sleep at 7am. We met Nat's old friend Denise for lunch in Kreuzberg before jumping on the train back to the airport contemplating our next, more extending trip to Berlin. We heart Berlin.
