Sony Ericsson Mindtrip

Last Thursday night in Milan, was a lot of fun! I had been invited to open the Sony Ericsson Party In Milan with Le Charme live and after DJs Radio Marelli & Cassius! The event was held at the mega galatctic Alcatraz venue, and I was asked to arrive early for my interview for ALL Music channel, which was presented by the adorable Toni! Love that girl!

I opened my set with one of my fav Chiacago based duo's Adult and then the wonders of indie electro beats followed! After a few vodka and red bulls served by the reliable Stella at the bar Amelia, Amy and I were on one! My friend Gianluca Longo, Fashion Director of ES Magazine was in town for a Samsonite event and when that was over decided to join in on the fun, backstage became a riot, of laughter and hysterics, we had so much fun.......

On the dancefloor again, we were swinging our bodies all over the place, just a shame the night for me at to come to a sudden end as my daughter back home took ill, I heard that for some the party that night never ended, it just kept going on!

Thanks to Sony Ericsson for a fantastic night!

Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya: The Interview

Cool, new Kitsune signed band of the moment, Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya, took some time out of their hectic schedule to answer my questions....

1. You are a very elusive collective, could you briefly explain who you are? Who makes up BBYYY?

Well, we're not a collective. We're nothing but a regular band. Ya Ya Ya is the beat maker and I'm the singer. My name is Bitchee. On stage, we have another Ya Ya Ya, playing keyboards. Pretty simple, isn't it?

2. BBYYY is definitely a memorable name, who came up with it and is there a meaning behind it?

Yeah, it's a tribute to this amazing song "Lady Marmalade" by Pattie Labelle. If you know the song, you'll recognise the lyrics that inspired us!

3. You're signed to Kitsune, do you think your sound mirrors the typical Kitsune 'sound' of electro dirty lo-fi beats? Are you worried about getting caught up in whole ‘sound of the moment’?

That's a great question. Well, I don't think our sound is so close to that, just because we do a lot of recording live, not only with the computer, so it's definitely a bit more dirty. To be honest, we don't really care about being caught up in any kind of sound. We're musicians - here's a clue to anyone wandering about who we are... -, and we're learning everyday how to surprise the audience. Everyone who's heard our music on myspace think that we're in this particular circle of music, but nobody has heard the shape and the colours of the album we're working on. We came out with F''k Friend because that song was pretty obvious. We didn't have a label then, so it made things easier to put this one up front first. Now, we're stepping up in terms of sound, productions, and ideas, I hope...

4. You've mixed a lot of tracks for many artists including Bonde Do Role, Cazals, and The Whip. Do you think music is moving in the direction of mash-ups and DJs remixes?

I don't think it is, as far as music is concerned, but I think promotion is moving this way. It's good and it helps to have such and such names on your record, or Ep, but then, when you just blow up, like us for instance, it just helps to be known. We love it though! It's awesome to be able to work on someone else's song... Some of the music we've remixed was very inspiring too.

5. Who is the pretty girl on your myspace page?

Well, her nickname is __________ but you know her as ____ _____.

6. Right, lets talk about your two original tracks F**K Friend and Tu Connais Le Chanson. They are very kitsch, very 80s sounding. What inspired them?

Well, I guess a few things did... Nothing very original, but sometimes, you don't need much to write something!

7. Coming out of Paris and into London hints at being surrounded by fashion and style constantly. Has fashion influenced your music in anyway or vice versa?

Not really. I mean, not at all. You should see us on a Sunday, and you'd see how not important this is to us... I mean, as a girl, I spend 5 hours in front of the mirror etc. but hey, who said that was different from anyone else???

8. Do you think music and fashion go hand in hand?

Yeah, they're in love. They have a kid called "Fashic". You'll find him on myspace.

9. Who influences you musically?

Do you have any idols?Just to name a few, Dee Light, Prince, Sly Stone, Bowie, Zapp, E.S.G., The Supremes, Blurt, the M.J.'s - Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson... My idol is the girl on the picture of our myspace profile. And Rick James.

10. Your sound makes me want to decode the instruments you use- reminiscent of an old fisher price drum kit or a medley of kitchen utensils used in a one-woman band. Is this an accurate description?

Wow, that's exactly what we use !!! Who told you?

11. Name three ways of describing your sound.

Ballsy, fun, poppy, and awfully sexy. Sorry, that's 4 words....

12. You're originally from Paris. How does the music scene there differ from your new home London's scene?

Much less bands there... London is moving sooooo fast that it's hard to compare with Paris... In the meantime, some bands in Paris are very original, probably a bit more than the whole London scene, even though we like a lot of stuff happening there in the past few months.

13. You're sound is very now. Do you think this is a sound that could last?

I don't know, I hope so! But once again, we're thinking in terms of album, not "myspace single", so if this Lp ever comes out, you'll see if we made the decision to go on with that sound... We don't even know ourselves yet...

14. You've had 55 plays today on your myspace page. How will you go about getting your sound heard and increasing this number?

Well, we've had over 1000 plays/day in the last 15 days, so I think you're a bit late on that one. We'll just make music, that's all we can do, right? And get new friends on Facebook.

15. Any tours you're about to embark on?

Yeah, shows are adding to each other every week, so please come and visit the page: www.myspace.com/bbyayaya <http://www.myspace.com/bbyayaya>

16. What do you think of my blog?

I think it's great, and I know that if I were a lesbian or a man, I would love to flirt with you. I'm none of them, so I'll just say that your blog is awesome !!!
